The manufacturing of pulp and paper causes the formation of many chemicals like rosin, tall oil, and lignin, some of which have a strong tendency to foam during the pulping and paper-making process.
In the pulping process, due to stirring, turbulence, oscillation, jet, and other operations, a large number of foam will be generated, which will reduce the relative density of the pulp and the washing efficiency. In addition, the bubbles make the pulp pressure sharply reduced, resulting in the release of gas, which may make the paper with pinholes, and then affect the subsequent process.
White water is the wastewater produced in the papermaking process. White water contains a large number of substances that are surfactant, which can reduce the surface tension of water and lead to the formation of foam. In the coating process, lots of operations will cause the processing water and white water mixed with air to form foam.
Foam negatively affects the efficiency of the manufacturing equipment and leads to flaws in the finished product. Therefore, a complete line of defoamers is needed to effectively control foam in all pulp and paper processes, from pulp washing black liquid, paper machine white water, sizing, and coating to sewage treatment.
